Emei Global Summit

    Functioned as a supporting activity of Sichuan International Travel Expo, Tourism Development on New Formats-Emei Global Summit has since been exerting itself greatly at a high level around the world. Pivoting on resource integration & innovative development, the summit has attracted a great many talents from all circles to be engaged in, including officials of international tourism organizations, leadership of governmental tourism departments, distinguished scholars in China and abroad, and travel businessmen as well. It aims at providing insight into new trend of tourism development across China and the world, via a closer attention to its dynamic and potentials, so as to play a constructive role in creating Sichuan tourism image. Emei Global Summit is designed to be held on an annual basis during the ongoing SCITE, and has turned out a success twice until now.

In 2014 Emei Global Summit under the theme of Trends of Global Tourism Development and Layout of Existing Resources in the Spirit of Innovation, participants from different walks of life discussed and analyzed the integration of tourism and other industries, and the driving factors behind it; the different patterns or forms of tourism derived from the development of new formats in tourism; the current situation of the development of new types of tourism operations; paths for promoting the transformation of new tourism; and upgrading and maintaining the sustainable development of tourism.

In 2015, the summit closely focused on The Silk Road-The merit of tourism merging with culture, for the reason that Sichuan has served as a crucial traffic corridor between Southwest and Northwest, linking Central Asia, South Asia and Southeast Asia, thereby playing a significant role in pushing forward One Belt & One Road. The summit was carried out in the form of main and sub-forum, highlighting its professional, global and strategic vision, and with a number of research results and reports released, including China's Most Beautiful Landscape Avenue 318/317; Report on Development of Sichuan and Tibet as World Tourism Destinations, by the UNWTO; and the Report on Mountain Tourism Development-Taking Sichuan as an Example, by the PATA.

In 2016, Emei Global Summit is held in the same way as the previous ones. A deep and constructive discussion will be unveiled at the main and sub-forum, by respectively focusing on Promoting a Destination's Holistic Tourism and Internationalization, Buddhism Culture Tourism Destination Construction and Mountain Tourism Development

It is  the first time that Asian-Pacific Travel and Business Conference and Emei Global Summit were held together.Vice Governor of Sichuan Province Yang Hongbo delivered a welcome speech. Wei Hongtao, Vice Chairman of the China National Tourism Administration; Yang Xiuping, Secretary-General of the ASEAN-China Centre; Andrew Jones, Chairman of the Pacific Asia Travel Association (PATA); Gerald Lawless, Chairman of the World Travel & Tourism Council and Zhu Shanzhong, Executive Director of the United Nations World Tourism Organization (UNWTO) gave speeches, respectively. Under-Secretary General Huang Xiaoping from the provincial government, Director Hao Kangli of the provincial tourism development committee, Peng Lin, Secretary of the CPC Leshan Municipal Committee and other leaders attended the opening ceremony. Zhang Tong, Mayor and Deputy Party Secretary of the Leshan Municipal People's Government presided over the opening ceremony. 

Both domestic and international research institutes and famous experts and scholars, as well as representatives from provincial (municipal) travel bureaus, travel agencies, tourist associations, tourism companies, famous scenic spots and provinces and cities were all invited to attend the Forum. 

In response to International Year of Sustainable Tourism for Development, Emei Global Summit 2017 has got themed with "Sustainability, Creativity, Responsibility", on a mission to raise awareness of sustainable tourism among public and private sectors. Of all deleagtes in attendance were Mr. Zhu Shanzhong, Executive Director of UNWTO, Mr. Dale Lawrence, Special Advisor to PATA CEO, Ms. Yang Xiuping, Secretary General of ASEAN-China Center, Mr. Randy Durband, President of Global Sustainable Tourism Council and Mr. Fu Yonglin, Director General of Sichuan Tourism Development Committee.

At the Summit, more than 300 world-known experts, scholars and travel operators got together to discuss about and offer insights into "Creativity" and "Responsibility" facing Sichuan and Leshan as they both are on the road for sustainability. Notably, Ms. Xu Fan, UNWTO & PATA expert issued Leshan Mountain and Mountain Area Tourism Stragetic Action Plan 2017-2021, sheding light on the present and prospect of Leshan tourism based on international ideas and vision, in order to ensure that Leshan authority be clear about what steps to take next to foster local tourism and put mountain tourism into practice.

In addition, Mr. Randy Durband, President of GSTC, offered GSTC Acknowledgement of Sustainable Destination to Leshan Giant Buddha Scenic Area, followed up by Signing Ceremony of Sichuan Tourism Projects, which reached 28 agreements in total, valued at CNY 68.5 billion.
